Fireplace screens arrive in a diversity of forms also sizes. We do our best to supply a great collection of standard sizes for typical openings. However frequently times, fireplaces are much larger or smaller than the standard, or they could have "arched" tops or full arches. Here are some tips to get you on your way to your up to date fireplace screen. When you have everything the information you require head over to our Fireplace Screens, to check out your alternatives for standard or custom fireplace screens.
You would need to get a somewhat correct measurement of your "fireplace" opening. Conventional fireplaces are constructed by hand, especially ones built of old stone or brick. It’s normal to have a fireplace that might be slightly out square. A properly appropriate "fireplace" screen could camouflage some of those defects. To measure your opening, measure the width across the top also bottom, plus the height on the left with right side.
When deciding on a screen size we typically recommend a 1" overlap, on the sides also on the top. That signifies you would append 2" to the width, also 1" to the height of your fireplace measurement. This is just a common guide. If you are trying to hide some brick work that has been blackened. Or an opening that is out of square you could add more overlap. Just try to keep a balanced look.
If you need a 3" overlap, you would add 6" to the sides plus 3" to the top. For openings that are very high, you don’t always need to fully cover the height. You could retain the elevation of the "screen" under 32" - 36" with overlap the sides only, or keep the screen inside the "fireplace" opening.
It does not always have to be black. Adding a custom finish to your fireplace screen could make it look really beautiful. Your fireplace "screen" could be a ornamental accent, in addition to the welfare it provides. If you possess taken the time to select other furniture with finishes in your space, you could use those pieces to guide you. It does not have to match perfectly, you could create a layered look by selecting finishes that compliment each other. You could select our "Matte bronze" finish to praise soft warm tones, or Pewter to pick up on silver or nickel finishes.
There are some tips for making a template of your fireplace: Lay a bit of cardboard large enough to cover the opening in front of the fireplace opening. Slash a hole large enough to stick your arm through it in the center of the cardboard. With a black marker in hand, thrust you arm through the hole also trace the opening by following along the brick. Once you have a cardboard trace of the opening, you could convey it to paper, so that it could easily be mailed to us. The paper have to indicate which side of the template faces the front of the area.
