Safari 5.1.1: 13 percent faster Javascript performance

Along with iOS 5, iCloud and OS X 10.7.2 Lion, Apple updated its kingpin browser Safari as well, updating it to version 5.1.1. They say the new Safari brings 13% faster Javascript performance, something which is always welcome.

Safari 5.1.1 also contains various fixes and improvements to performance, stability, usability, compatibility, accessibility and security, including fixes that:

  • Improve JavaScript performance up to 13% over Safari 5.1*
  • Address issues that could cause hangs and excessive memory usage
  • Improve stability when using Find, dragging tabs, and managing extensions
  • Improve stability for and other websites that use the Silverlight plug-in
  • Add a Show Downloads item to the View menu
  • Improve the consistency of the pinch to zoom gesture
  • Address issues in full screen that affected search suggestions, URL updating, window sizing, and the title bar
  • Address an issue that could prevent East Asian character input into webpages with Flash content
  • Address an issue that could cause Safari to open links in windows instead of tabs
  • Improve PDF handling
  • Address an issue that could affect cookie and data deletion
  • Address an issue that could cause History items to appear incorrectly
  • Correct the text in application download alerts
  • Improve compatibility with webpages with Flash video embedded from and other websites
  • Improve printing from Safari
  • Address an issue that could prevent the Google Safe Browsing Service from updating

Apple Announces New iPod Touch, available from October 12

Apart from the Nano, Apple has updated the Touch as well, giving users a host of new products today.

Apple updates Java for Mac OS X, iTunes to 10.2.1

Apple has updated Java for Mac OS X for both – 10.5 Leopard and 10.6 Snow Leopard. The updates are related to security and can be found in the software update application.

In addition to Java, Apple has also updated iTunes to 10.2.1, just days after updating it to 10.2. This new update presumably fixes some bugs as no other major changes are noticed.

‘Skype for TV’ lets you video chat from your iPhone to your TV (WTF!?!)

Skype has just updated its iPhone app to enable ‘Skype for TV’ that lets you video chat from your Apple iPhone to your TV. WTF is that!?!

Skype for TV‘ is apparently an app that runs on a few Samsung and Panasonic TVs that you likely don’t own, and besides you also need a compatible webcam to go with it. We’re not quite sure what the people behind this idea were thinking but it sure is a unique concept and we’re really looking forward to some people using it and giving us reviews.
