While the strikers score goals and take away all the credit its the defenders who try to stop the strikers from scoring. Defenders are the most important part of the team. They some times make saves which are worthy of a goal. Defenders need to be strong both physically and mentally. They need to be quick to fall back as well. Lets check out our top 10 defenders of Firstain.

10. Philip Lahm
One of the mainstays of the Germany team for several years, Lahm’s marauding runs from full-back are a good avenue of attack for Germany. The versatile Lahm is capable of shooting and passing with either foot, and enjoyed a fine 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

9. Nesta
Nesta has been the backbone of the Italy and AC Milan defenses over the years. He is strong, reliable and has the ability to instill fear in minds of opponents. He is one of the best defender in the world out there.

8. Maicon
Not for a long time has there been a right-back capable of having so much influence on a game. The Inter Milan defender’s forceful runs down the right provide a great avenue of attack, not only for him to cross the ball, but for his teammates who can occupy the space vacated by opposition players trying to arrest Maicon’s attacking stories. He has pace to burn and is a also a solid defender. Keeps the outstanding Barcelona right-back Dani Alves out of the Brazil team.

7. Sergio Ramos
Ramos has everything. He has skill, pace, strength, does not make costly errors, is versatile and scores a lot of goals for a defender. He is a sort of player who can KILL HIMSELF to win the ball.

6. Gerard Pique
Many at Barcelona believe this product of the club’s youth system will go on to captain the club someday. He was a key protagonist as Spain won the World Cup in South Africa last summer. A composed defender who is strong in the air and the tackle, Pique is also adept at launching his team’s attacks. And he even claims to know all of Cristiano Ronaldo’s tricks from their time together at Manchester United.

5. Ashley Cole
Cole is one of the few players over the years to have got to grips with Cristiano Ronaldo. At Euro 2004 he had one of his best games in an England shirt, matching the Portuguese star in a captivating battle. Since then, Cole has developed into arguably the best left-back in the world. He can get forward, score goals, cross the ball, and is Mr Reliable when on the back foot.

4. Carles Puyol
You need a beast to guard a cave. You need Puyol to defend the goal. He is the World’s most AGGRESSIVE defender and a shrewd leader with aggressive looks. Along with Pique, he was instrumental in Spain and Barcelona’s recent run of success.

3. Thiago Silva
The Brazilian has almost everything a good defender should have but is often ignored by everyone. A strong tackler and commanding in the air, the AC Milan center back was outstanding in the 2010-11 season as the Rossoneri won their first Italian title since 2004. Silva is so comfortable on the ball that he was even deployed in midfield by coach Massimiliano Allegri when injuries hit the squad. His performances prompted Milan to extend his contract until June 2016.

2. John Terry
An inspirational player who is never afraid to throw himself on the ball and save his goal. Can score goals as well which is a bonus. Meet John Terry — Mr. Chelsea!

One of the best defender in the world, Terry provides great support to Cech and also motivates everyone around him. With amazing positioning, he provides a great  link between Midfield and Defense and has a hunch for goals. A true leader on the pitch.

1. Nemanja Vidic
The Manchester United defender may not be playing in one of the most prominent national teams, but he helps form a defense that has been particularly stingy over the years. In qualifying for the 2006 World Cup, Vidic and his comrades conceded just one goal in 10 matches, a record that helped them top the group ahead of Spain. He has a commanding presence and can also pop up with goals from time to time.

Terry and wife return from Dubai strongly in love

Chelsea skipper John Terry arrived back in the UK hand-in-hand with his wife on Monday.

Toni (Poole) Terry had fled to Dubai following allegations her husband had an affair with lingerie model Vanessa Perroncel.

England’s ex-captain flew to see his wife last Thursday following claims of a relationship with the ex-partner of England team-mate Wayne Bridge.

The Terrys arrived at Heathrow tonight with their two children.

Terry, 29, had been allowed to miss Chelsea’s FA Cup match against Cardiff on Saturday to take some time off after headlines relating to his private life were splashed across the papers.

He was pictured kissing and cuddling his wife as the couple relaxed by the pool of a five-star hotel in Dubai.

Speaking to Saturday’s edition of The Sun, Terry said: “We know how we feel about each other and that is the main thing. Our relationship has never been knocked down. We’re just so in love.”

Toni said: “We’re very strong as a couple – always have been. John came over to see me and the kids and enjoy a few days in the hot weather.”

John Terry’s Wife Toni Poole Forgives Chelsea Skipper Over Vanessa Perroncel Scandal

John Terry and Toni Poole splash around while holidaying in Barbados

John Terry’s desperate attempts to restore himself in the affections of both his wife and the British public showed no signs of abating as played the doting husband and father during a family fishing trip in Dubai.

And the sacked England captain is set to continue his charm offensive tonight with a lavish Valentine’s Day treat for his beleaguered wife Toni.

Yesterday, sporting a white bikini and her newly-dyed hair, brunette Toni appeared relaxed, larking around with fishing rods while being guided by her husband, 29.

The 29-year-old – who has looked understandably strained since details of her husband’s infidelities emerged – went to great lengths to smile and cuddle the disgraced footballer.

The couple also enjoyed a family swim with their three-year-old twins, who were reportedly delighted when their father arrived at the holiday resort.

They have continued to amaze onlookers in Dubai with passionate shows of affection.

Since Poole fled to the luxury holiday destination, there has been serious speculation over whether or not Terry could save his marriage.

But it seems there should have been no doubt in the couple’s bond – frolicking on the beach near their resort yesterday, they couldn’t take their hands or eyes off each other.

An onlooker said to the News of the World: ‘I don’t know what sort of line JT’s been spinning but it looks like his missus has swallowed it. Where’s the catch?’

Another said: ‘What does that man have to do to upset his wife? He’s cheated on her and she’s welcomed him back with open arms. She must be the most forgiving woman on the planet.’

Another amazed hotel guest echoed this saying: ‘It’s amazing how it all seems forgotten so quickly. John must have something special. Toni’s been all over him like a rash.

‘She looked so miserable when she first arrived in Dubai. Watching the pair fool around the pool, it’s difficult to believe it’s the same woman. (Daily Mail)

Terry sacked from England Captaincy; Rio to succeed?

John Terry was stripped of the England captaincy on Friday following reports of an extra-marital affair with the ex-girlfriend of international team-mate Wayne Bridge, the Football Association (FA) confirmed.

The move comes after a meeting between Terry and England’s head coach, Fabio Capello, at FA headquarters at Wembley.

Capello made it clear that while Terry’s conduct on the field had been exactly what he wanted when he made his decision to appoint the central defender as skipper in August 2008, recent headlines about his personal life left him with little choice other than to remove the honour from the Chelsea skipper.

“After much thought I have made the decision that it will be best for me to take the captaincy away from John Terry,” said Fabio Capello.

“As a captain with the team, John Terry has displayed extremely positive behavior. However, I have to take into account other considerations and what is best for all of the England squad. What is best for all of the England team has inspired my choice and John Terry was notified first.” he added.

Although Capello has not clarified whether he still intends to select Terry, Press Association Sport understands he has already confirmed Rio Ferdinand will replace the Chelsea man, with Steven Gerrard acting as his deputy.

“When I chose John Terry as captain, I also selected a vice-captain and also named a third choice,” said Capello.

“There is no reason to change this decision.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the FA, particularly Lord David Triesman and Ian Watmore for allowing me to make this decision in my own time and in the best interest of the team.”

Meanwhile Terry kept his own comments brief. However, he had little option other than to accept Capello’s decision and gave a broad hint that he would continue to be involved with the national team.

“I fully respect Fabio Capello’s decision,” Terry said in a statement released to Press Association Sport.

“I will continue to give everything for England.”

John Terry scandal: 10 things you ought to know about Vanessa Perroncel

1) Vanessa Perroncel is a 33 year-old French model and an occasional actress. She stands 5’9″ in her tights and boasts vital statistics of34-24-34. She’s a UK dress size 8-10, and takes a size 6 shoe.

2) She has one child with Wayne Bridge – a boy with the in-no-way ridiculous name Jaydon Jean Claude Bridge, born in November 2006.

3) She has a penchant for letting miniature JCBs drive over her naked flesh. And, no, that’s not a euphemism, but rather a reference to the bizarre shots splashed all over Vanessa’s official website .

4) She starred in the 2004 movie adaptation of Andrew Lloyd-Webber’s Phantom of the Opera . Well, when we say ‘starred’, we mean appeared for a micro-second in a role officially billed as “Candelabra Holder”, but that’s showbiz for you.

5) She can also be seen wearing not many clothes at all in the promo pictures of celebrated art-house smash Ali G Indahouse , although sadly we can’t confirm whether she’s in the film itself because… well, because we can’t find anyone who will own up to having actually watched it.

6) She had a much more prominent role in the long-running farce that was England’s 2006 World Cup campaign. Vanessa was part of the WAG pack who ran amok at the side’s Baden-Baden training base, reportedly blowing huge wads of cash on designer clothes, extravagant nights out and perfumes made from distilled unicorn tears. Or something.

7) Despite being a Frenchwoman who went out with an England star, she had no problems with split loyalties. Before the start of the 2006 World Cup, Vanessa told the Daily Mirror: “I hope England playFrance in the final, then I can’t lose.” Unfortunately she was spared such a fortuitous outcome by England being bobbins.

8 ) She once indulged Wayne’s Star Wars obsession by splashing out £1000 on an authentic stormtrooper outfit for him. Insert your own lightsaber joke here…

9) She reportedly split up with Wayne back in December 2009, blaming HIS philandering ways. “Players and friends led him astray,” she said. “He was going out more than he should have.” Forget spoons on your wedding day – that’s irony. Possibly.

10) Just like the footballers she likes to knock around with, Vanessa has has her own fan-made YouTube compilations. Proof, if proof were needed, that some people really do have too much time on their hands…
