Following on from where we left on Saturday, today’s footballing action in the premier league was exciting too with some good matches played today. Arsenal left it late to win a thrilling encounter with Sunderland 2-1 at the Emirates while Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur shared the points in an entertaining 2-2 draw. In another match, West Bromwich Albion beat Wolverhampton Wanderers comfortably at home with the scoreline 2-0.
The Barclays/English Premier League (BPL/EPL) action is back after a 2 week gap (international break) and what better way to kick start the weekend than a showdown between Liverpool and Manchester United – arguably the biggest rivalry in the premier league. Both the Reds have a tremendous history behind and are managed by two legendary managers – King Kenny (Kenny Dalglish) and Emperor Ferguson (Sir Alex Ferguson).
The game was a tight affair in the first half but opened up completely in the second. Liverpool opened the scoring through a Steven Gerrard free kick – Gerrard of course returning from a long time out on the sidelines through a groin injury – and for United it was the little Mexican Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez who equalized with a nicely executed header. The match ended 1-1.
Other notable fixtures included Aston Villa’s visit to Manchester City, where a win for the hosts could take them top of the table thanks to United’s stalemate at Anfield, and Bolton’s clash with Wigan.
