Further the magazine adds, “Despite a drop in first quarter earnings because of a reduction in TV revenue, the appetite for shares of the club have increased due to better earnings, new deals with Japan’s Kansai and China Construction Bank, and the potential of much more impressive English Premier League and Champions League payouts this year.”

FA Cup 4th round draw announced: Manchester United get Liverpool, Chelsea slated for QPR — #RacismRow all over again?

Well, they couldn’t have scripted this. Two of the most talked about fixtures during the close of 2011, both of which witnessed a cult accusation of racism – one solved and another yet to reach climax – will be replayed in the 4th round of the world’s oldest cup competition, the FA Cup. Manchester United’s clash against Liverpool at Anfield earlier this season saw Kop striker Luis Suarez racially abusing United captain Patrice Evra and subsequently being suspended for 8 games, along with a fine. Both the clubs will now face off in the next round of FA Cup, to be played over the weekend of 28 January 2012.

Another incidence of racism that struck Britain, and also the world of football, was Chelsea captain John Terry allegedly racially abusing Queen’s Park Rangers’ defender Anton Ferdinand. Ironically, the fixture will be replayed in the next round of FA Cup as well.

It’s funny how two captains – one a victim and another an accused – will have to lead their respective teams out onto the football pitch against the same team (respectively) who caused them significant trouble to end 2011 on an unpleasant note.

Anyway, here are all the fixtures of the 4th round of the FA Cup:

  • Brighton or Wrexham v Newcastle
  • Sunderland v Middlesbrough
  • Dagenham & Redbridge or Millwall v Southampton
  • Hull City v Crawley Town
  • MK Dons or QPR v Chelsea
  • West Brom v Norwich
  • Blackpool v Sheffield Wednesday
  • Arsenal or Leeds v Aston Villa
  • Stevenage v Notts County
  • Watford v Tottenham
  • Liverpool v Manchester United
  • Derby v Stoke
  • Everton v Fulham
  • Macclesfield or Bolton v Swansea
  • Sheffield United v Birmingham or Wolves
  • Nottingham Forest or Leicester v Swindon

Manchester United beat 10-men Manchester City 3-2 at the Etihad stadium earlier during the day to progress from the 3rd round.

Paul Scholes rejoins Manchester United, to start from bench in today’s crunch Manchester derby

Widely recognized and hugely popular English midfielder Paul Scholes has decided to come out of retirement and rejoin the Red Devils, the club announced in a statement shortly ago. Scholes had hung up his boots at the end of last season after an illustrious career with United, but had to reverse his decision at a crucial point of the season thanks to the growing list of Man United players out injured.

And if Scholes coming out of retirement and being available for the Reds wasn’t pleasant enough for the champions, he has been thrown straight into the high-voltage Manchester Derby in the FA Cup 3rd round, which is about to kick off in a few minutes. He will initially, though, start from the bench.

Sir Alex Ferguson said: “It’s fantastic that Paul has made this decision. It’s always sad to see great players end their careers, but especially so when they do it early.

“But he has kept himself in great shape and I always felt that he had another season in him. It’s terrific to have him back.”

Paul Scholes added: “I’ve been pretty clear since I stopped playing that I miss it. I’m delighted the manager feels I can still make a contribution to the team and I’m looking forward to playing my part in trying to bring more success to this great club.”

Gary Neville coming to India this January!

An out-and-out Red, a Manchester United legend, winner of eight Premier League titles, three FA Cups, one UEFA Champions League title, and one FIFA Club World Cup, Gary Alexander Neville will soon be in India to paint the town Red.

The ex-United and England right-back will arrive in Mumbai on January 12th at the Manchester United Cafe at Phoenix Mills, Lower Parel for a book signing event of his own autobiography titled RED: My Autobiography.

The former Red Devils’ captain, who spent 19 years at the club making 400 appearances and finding the net 5 times, seemed pretty excited on his maiden trip to India, claiming he is looking forward to meet his fans from the sub-continent.

Neville will first finish a book signing at the Sunway Pyramid, Malaysia on 8th January before heading to the land of customs on Jan 12.

Neville and his club Manchester United are no strangers to India, with the Reds boasting around 20 million fans from India alone. In fact, such is United’s craze in India that the reigning English champions have opened as many as three (3) Manchester United Merchandise stores across the country last month. The stores were opened in Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkatta thanks to Manchester United Merchandising (MUML)’s partnership with Indus-League Clothing Ltd., a part of the Future Group.

This is really exciting for football fans in India, who know that slowly but surely their country seems to be heading in the right direction in the sport.

Previously, English (Barclays) Premier League side Blackburn Rovers — who incidentally beat United on the last day of 2011 — were acquired by Indian firm Venky’s, who managed to bring the lads over to Pune in India for a friendly match against local I-League team Pune FC.

Next week, on January 10, German Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich will visit India to play the Indian National Team in a farewell match for India’s best player, captain, and certainly the face of Indian football, Bhaichung Bhutia.

Manchester United gives India its first three official merchandising stores

The world’s most successful football club, Manchester United has finally decided to open its official merchandising store in India, and while they are at it, they are beginning with three.

Manchester United Merchandising (MUML) has teamed up with Indus-League Clothing Ltd., part of the Future Group, to announce the launch of three new exclusive Manchester United stores in Mumbai (Palladium Mall, Lower Parel), New Delhi and Kolkatta.

United are hugely popular the world over with an estimated fan-base of 20 million in India alone. Hence it comes as no surprise they are giving some love back to the Indians.

These stores will provide fans with a complete, authentic and exciting experience of being at Old Trafford, the home of Manchester United. Undoubtedly, these flagship stores will provide a big boost to the already intense popularity of the Red Devils in India.

To launch the new venture, customers who visit the store will be able to enter the “Kick off to Old Trafford” competition where four lucky winners will be given a chance to watch the match with Liverpool live at the Theatre of Dreams, with the fixture currently scheduled for 11 February.

Barclays Premier League: 15th October — Results Roundup

The Barclays/English Premier League (BPL/EPL) action is back after a 2 week gap (international break) and what better way to kick start the weekend than a showdown between Liverpool and Manchester United – arguably the biggest rivalry in the premier league. Both the Reds have a tremendous history behind and are managed by two legendary managers – King Kenny (Kenny Dalglish) and Emperor Ferguson (Sir Alex Ferguson).

The game was a tight affair in the first half but opened up completely in the second. Liverpool opened the scoring through a Steven Gerrard free kick – Gerrard of course returning from a long time out on the sidelines through a groin injury – and for United it was the little Mexican Javier ‘Chicharito’ Hernandez who equalized with a nicely executed header. The match ended 1-1.

Other notable fixtures included Aston Villa’s visit to Manchester City, where a win for the hosts could take them top of the table thanks to United’s stalemate at Anfield, and Bolton’s clash with Wigan.
