Reliance Jio 4G demoed!

Mukesh Ambani owned Reliance Industries is working hard to get 4G started in India. Reliance has a pan India license for 4G and has recently partnered with Airtel for sharing of infrastructure.

4G was expected to be launched by 2013 but there has certainly been a delay. The delay is mainly because Reliance haven’t yet got enough tie ups for its new technology. At the present moment very limited people in the country use 4G devices.

Reliance Jio Infocomm gave a little preview of it’s 4G technology at the ITT Tech Fest. The downloading speeds varied between 18MBPS to 48MBPS  while the average upload speeds were 9MBPS.

Reliance Jio Infocomm also previewed some other services like Jio Play and Jio Mags.

Jio Play

  • It is a Live Tv service
  • Jio Play will have a total of 160 channels including 16 HD channels.
  • Video on Demand will have around 400 movies.
  • You can also catch up a previous day tv program upto 7 days back.

Jio Mifi Devices

Reliance Jio is also working on Wifi-Mifi devices so that customers can use 4G on wifi enabled devices.

Jio Mags is a e-magazine service provided by the company.

Jio Drive is a 100GB cloud storage service that will be provided by Reliance.

Launch Date

There is no official word on the launch date. The 4G services are expected to be rolled out by mid 2014.

Nokia Lumia 1520 launched in India for Rs.46,999

Nokia’s phablet which launched at the Nokia World  2013 event in Dubai has been officially launched in India for a whooping price of Rs.46,999.

The Nokia lumia 1520 boasts a 6 inch 1080p full HD display and has a Snapdragon 800 processor with 2 GB of RAM. Other specifications include:

Nokia is far behind Apple and Samsung when it comes to smartphones but Nokia with its Lumia series is catching up well. However, I feel at this price Nokia Lumia 1520 would not have many buyers.

All we can do is just wait and watch whether Nokia Lumia 1520 makes a difference or is it just a phone that will come and go away.

Official: Google launches Chromebooks in India

This festive season is going to be filled with gadgets for the Indians.

The iPhone is coming on November 1 and now Google has also announced that chromebook’s will be available in India starting October 17.

There will be two models available initially – the HP 14 and Acer C720.

Flipkart is currently taking preorders for the chromebook’s which are priced at Rs. 22,999 (Acer C720) and Rs. 26990(HP).

It will be surprising if the Chromebooks are a big hit in the Indian market considering the super high prices and lack of wireless internet connectivity in the country.

However to solve this issue upto a certain extent Google has tied up two wireless internet service providers – Airtel and Tikona to provide cheaper internet options to Chromebook users.

More details regarding the internet plans are available here and here.

Both the HP and Acer Chromebook’s run on Intel Celeron 2955U processor which is based on Intel’s latest Haswell processors.

More details about product specifications can be found on Google’s website.

Rumor: iPhone 5S coming to India before November 1

Apple sold 9 million units of iPhone’s in the first week – (Thanks China). This time Apple seems to be showing some love to India.

According to Aptronix, a brand new Apple reseller in Juhu, Mumbai, the iPhone 5S is most likely to come out before Diwali.

The reason here is simple and obvious. iPhone in India is a prestige possession and people spend big bucks in India only during festive season. Diwali is India’s biggest festival. Apple would not want to lose out on this opportunity.

According to other rumors, Apple is all set to open up 100 stores in stores in 2 tire and 3 tire cities in the next 6-9 months to cater to the wealthy people in those cities.

Pricing, however is not yet known. If tech pandits are to be believed the iPhone 5S would cost Rs.50000+ but according to our sources(do not wished to be named) the iPhone 5S would come out at the same rate the iPhone 5 came out in India (Rs.1000 – 2000 difference might be there but will not cross Rs.50000). The iPhone 5C is expected to cost around Rs. 39000.

Is India becoming an Important Market for Apple iPhone ?

After the launch of the iPhone 5 Apple has shown a lot of love for India. The launch of the iTunes Store, Apple TV is just one part of the love. The iPhone 5 also came to India pretty soon compared to previous models and so did the iPad Mini.

NOW,

Apple is running extremely high dosage promotional activities for the iPhone in India. Apple is offering 0% EMI schemes, with 10% cash back offers on the iPhone 4, 4S and the iPhone 5.

The latest offer by Apple lets the public give their old smartphone and get a minimum discount of Rs.7000 on the iPhone 4. This means the iPhone 4 which retails for Rs.26,500 would be available for 19,500.

This is primarily done by Apple to make the iPhone available in the sub-20,000 range to take on the Samsung Galaxy Grand, Blackberry Torch and some HTC phones.

No surprises, this scheme is doing extremely well and the latest reports state that the iPhone 4 is outselling the iPhone 5 in India. It’s only Apple who can sell a 2 year old phone at Rs.20,000.

In fact the iPhone 4 scheme was available only till 14th April,2013 but seeing an extremely positive response this scheme has been extended until 30th April,2013.

There are still some questions unanswered –

1. Why is Apple focusing on India all of a sudden?

Samsung is taking a part of Apple’s pie in the US, UK and Canada. Also Samsung has a greater hold on the smartphone market in developing countries like India. Apple has understood that if it wants to continue leading the smartphone market developing countries like India and China are extremely important.

2. Behind the scenes of the iPhone 4, minimum Rs.7000 discount scheme

The Apple reseller gets a Rs.5000 credit note from the distributer in country( Redington and Ingram Micro) and the rest Rs.2000 can be recovered by the reseller by selling the smartphone that the customers gives. It is on the discretion of the reseller whether or not to accept the smartphone given by the customer.

3. Why the special Scheme only for iPhone 4 ?

I think everyone by knows that the iPhone 5S is going to launch in summer. After the launch of the iPhone 5S the iPhone 4 will become almost obsolete. At the moment also sales of iPhone 4 in developed countries is extremely low. Apple wants to sell as many as possible before the launch on the iPhone 5S. iPhone is a premium phone and in a poor country like India people would not buying even a 2 year old iPhone if it is in their budget. Apple has studied the Indian market well.

Apple TV launched in India for Rs 8,295

Apple has been giving some special treatment to India since the last few months, the iPhone, iPad Mini came to India sooner than expected. Apple also launched the iTunes store in India with songs starting from Rs.7 onwards which is dirt cheap compared to the prices in the United States.

Now Apple is showing some more love for India( and why not- Apple iPhone sales have become 4x in India with the iPhone 5). Finally Apple Tv is officially available in India for Rs. 8295.

So now you can get all your iTunes media content easily on your big HD television, perform airplay and use iCloud services with ease.
