Manchester Delight: United cruise to record breaking 8-2 win over Arsenal as City put 5 past hapless Tottenham — Results Roundup

The third weekend of Barclays Premier League action has come to an end and boy it ended handsomely. While Chelsea and Liverpool both recorded wins yesterday, the clubs from Manchester really stole the show today with some amazing display of football.

Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City  stung Tottenham Hotspur right from the word go, creating chances after chances and eventually taking the lead through Edin Dzeko. The striker then went on to add 3 more to his tally, ending with 4 on the day and giving City their first win at White Hart Lane in 5 years. The Blues won 5-1. Kaboul scored the consolation goal for the home team.

As if Manchester City’s 5 star performance wasn’t enough, Manchester United really turned it on in the last match of the weekend, thumping 8 past a beleaguered Arsenal side as the Reds ran rampant at Old Trafford, showing City that they are still the team to beat. Wayne Rooney scored a hat-trick while Ashley Young starred too with 2 fantastic goals. Park, Welbeck, and Nani were the other scorers for United. For Arsenal, captain Van Persie, after missing a penalty early on, struck a ferocious volley from close range after Theo Walcott had given the Gunners some hope.

As with the previous 2 games this season, Arsenal yet again saw one of their players sent off, making it 3 out of 3. They now have more players sent off (3) than they have scored goals this season (2)  or have points on the board (1). Manchester United ended up 8-2 winners, breaking quite a few records in the process as Arsenal’s misery continues.

Jose Mourinho to quit Real Madrid?

Jose Mourinho, the self proclaimed “Special One” has had enough of life in Spain, with England his most preferred destination for a new challenge.

After enduring a torrid time at Real Madrid, Jose Mourinho has declared he is returning to England.

According to quotes reported in The Sun, the Portuguese supremo has decided he is going to return to England, and is considering Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea as his port of call.

Speaking to the press on Wednesday, Mourinho said: “I’ve decided to return to England. I have nothing prepared about my future – I just want to be happy in my work.

“I have no preferences about Manchester United, Manchester City or Chelsea. I just want to rediscover the joy.

“I’m not saying the Premier League is the most spectacular in the world but it is the best organised… the fair play and the enormous respect for your opponent.”

Speculation is rife about his future at Real Madrid, with reports of tension with president Jorge Valdano, and the Portuguese failed to appear for the post-match press conference after his side’s 1-0 win over Sevilla in the Copa Del Rey semi-final on Wednesday.

Manchester City finally snap up Milner; Ireland heads the other way

Manchester City completed the signing of England midfielder James Milner on Wednesday with Stephen Ireland moving to Villa Park as part of the deal.

The fee was undisclosed but local media valued the transfer fee for the 24-year-old at 24 million pounds ($37.53 million) based on a 16 million payment and an eight million valuation of Irish midfielder Ireland.

“I am very happy to have James with us, everybody knows we have admired him for some time,” City manager Roberto Mancini told the Macnchester club’s website (www.mcfc.co.uk).

“He is an excellent midfielder who can play in a number of positions… but he is also young and a good character. I think he can also improve and be a great player for Manchester City for a long time.”
