Turn your iPad into a foosball table with this interesting gadget

Yes, you read it right, now you can turn your iPad into a real foosball table! It is pretty cool to play foosball on your smartphone, but to play it on the iPad with a little foosball table, now that is a unique experience. People in New Potato Technologies are the one behind this interesting gadget which combines virtual applications and the real foosball table.

So, how does it work?

First things first, you have to meet some requirements before you can purchase this amazing foosball table, but don’t worry it is not complicated. The application which works on this stand is called the Classic Match Foosball, which is the name of the foosball table as well. You have to download the application to play on the table because this app is 100% compatible with the stand. Any other application might work, but not likely because the stand is made especially for this application. The application itself is FREE so I don’t see a problem with the download.

Now, let’s talk about the stand. There are two dimensions you can purchase because the first dimension is compatible with the iPad 1,2 and 3. The second stand, a newer model, is compatible with the iPad 3, 4 and iPad Air and Air 2.

Two sizes of foosball tables for iPad

Both of the tables look pretty much the same, except some minor design changes which don’t affect the game. With this foosball table, you will get 4 legs, 1 stand for the iPad, 8 rods and 2 scoring systems (one in red and one in blue). The table assembly is extremely simple; all you need to do is to attach the legs on the stand and insert the rods into 8 holes, just below the place where you put the iPad and you are done. On the bottom part of the table is 1 USB port, which means that you can plug the table and charge your iPad while you play the match. Forget about the empty battery notification during the most interesting part of the game.

When you assemble the stand for the iPads and place them on the stand, your iPad will look like the mini foosball table. On both longer sides of the iPad are 4 rods used to control the players in the game. On both shorter sides of the iPads are scoring systems so you will have to move the bean when you score – just like on the real foosball table.

The Classic Match Foosball application

The foosball application is really good. I like the fact that the rods and the players in the app move the same second so you really have a feeling like you are on the real table. Rods are extra sensitive so they register every move you make, no matter how small it is. Unfortunately, the rods in the reality and the rods in the game aren’t in line, they are moved a little bit, but that is something you can get used to after 3-4 matches.

This gadget is one excellent product which will keep you entertained for hours and I think it can be the perfect gift for every fooser on the planet.

How Augmented Reality is Transforming the Workplace

With the pivot by Google Glass from its current product to focusing on developing Project Aura instead, it has become clear that augmented reality technology for enterprises is the new focus. And Google isn’t the only company making this change.

Of the companies making a name for themselves in the AR industry, some are developing products designed to work with pre-existing technologies (e.g. iPads), while others are designing completely new augmented reality hardware. For example, Microsoft’s HoloLens employs its own uniquely designed headset for the ultimate AR experience.

Improving the Workplace with Augmented Reality

Leveraging AR technology to improve overall efficiency, safety, and communication in a work environment is becoming an increasingly popular notion. Part of the reason it’s gaining such traction is the varied applications for AR in the workplace. From employee onboarding to optimized presentations, this technology can apply to almost every occupational circumstance.

For example, Training Room Online and Fuzzy Logic recently combined forces to provide an augmented reality solution to large financial institutions and their employee onboarding process. Through AR that employed gamification, the final product was able to deliver an engaging yet educational experience to new employees.

When it comes to applying AI to business presentations, software like Haiku Deck Zuru is making the experience more effective and engaging. By pulling key messaging from slides and dynamically editing them, the overall effect is the most informational and essential presentation appearing before the audience.

The potential AR offers for making everyday business functions more effective and streamlined is a major reason that augmented reality for enterprises is becoming the focus of this technology’s development.

Tips for Introducing AR to Enterprises

If you’re an augmented reality developer looking to enter the enterprise market, there are a few things to keep in mind. Given that this technology is so new, the targets of your business and your pitch will be different than any other type of SaaS sales.

Consider where AR can most effectively be applied within the enterprise system. As the company offering AR as a solution, you should be able to offer insight into where the technology would have the greatest impact. There’s rarely an industry that wouldn’t benefit from augmented reality.

Let clients know what hardware best suits their purposes. If the company you’re pitching AR to deals in highly physical or dangerous environments, you’ll need to suggest a more durable option than HoloLens. Furthermore, it will be important to distinguish if they require their own hardware or if they should access the technology from their smartphone or other pre-existing device.

Find the enterprises that are open to innovation. Augmented reality technology offers a solution to businesses who are searching for ways to boost efficiency in their physical production processes by expanding into the digital realm. Those that are suffering the most will have the most incentive to invest in a new technology like AR, considering its seemingly limitless potential.  For example, a food corporation with a farm will likely have great interest in a technological solution that optimizes their harvest yield.

Gather all the data you need for integrating AR into an enterprise. This technology thrives when it has the most data possible to work off from. Consider if the company will need to implement real-time sensors or work off of other contextual information.

Between the AR technologies that are designed for current hardware and others that are being developed in conjunction with unique devices, the applications for AR in the workplace are vast. Enterprises can best take advantage of the ROI-maximizing potential of this technology by investigating their options with AR developers and agencies. Applying digital solutions to the office space offers far too many advantages to ignore.

How much money is needed to create a good app?

If you’re considering making an app for your organization, it’s wise to determine early on how much the project will cost. Because the complexity involved in developing apps varies widely from project to project, the costs involved fluctuate widely as well.

Unfortunately, that means there is no single answer to a question like, “how much do mobile app development cost?” But by working through the considerations listed below, you can reach a clearer understanding of how expensive your project might be.

Who Is Developing the App?

The first question to consider—and the one that will determine much about your approach to the project—is who exactly will develop the app?

They are essentially two options here. In the first case, someone already working for you company could develop the app. (That person might even be you!) In this case, the total cost of the app development work is no higher than that person’s salary. If you have an experienced and capable developer on staff, and they have the time to take on a significant new project, then you might make your app without any new budget outlays.

On the other hand, you could hire a freelancer or dev shop to handle your project. This can be an expensive proposition; high quality developers often bill more than $100 per hour. That’s $4000 for a full 40-hour work week. But, given the value that many mobile apps deliver, this can certainly be money well spent.

How Complex Is the Project?

If you are outsourcing the work to a development company like OTS Solutions, how much you pay them will depend largely on the complexity of the project.

Many times, the mobile apps that clients ask for are relatively simple. If you don’t need much graphic design, and your app doesn’t include lots of interactivity, it might only take a few weeks to make.

On the other hand, apps that require lots of design work, and include many interactive elements (like games, forms, purchases, etc.) can require hundreds of hours of work. And on top of design and development, complex projects also require more project management and QA work.

It’s very common for complex apps to cost tens of thousands of dollars. But again, if you are developing apps that have high value for your organization, that price could be a fantastic investment.

Controlling Costs

No matter the size of your budget, you’ll want to do everything possible to minimize the final cost. And there are a number of effective approaches to limiting the cost of software development, without sacrificing features or quality. Below are some of the most important ones to consider.

DIY Project Management

Even if your organization doesn’t have developers in house, it’s likely that you do have employees with project management expertise. Leveraging their time can be an effective way of limiting the price you pay outside freelancers. Tight project management will keep the work on pace, and reduce the time developers have to waste figuring out exactly what is expected of them.

Create a Clear Project Plan

On a similar note, creating a definitive, comprehensive project plan before hiring freelancers will not only save you headaches and heartbreak, it can also save you thousands of dollars.

For those without experience making applications, it’s normal to assume that most of the work consists of actual coding time. But in fact, things like requirements analysis and drafting design specs can be equally challenging, and eat up a huge portion of your budget. If you do your homework first and keep that work in house, you can easily save 25% or more on your outsourcing costs.

Limit Feedback and Revisions

Once you start to receive design mocks and prototypes, you will undoubtedly have ideas on how they could improve, and your project plan should account for revision time. However, you should be mindful revisions to a features (particularly once coding has started) can double or triple the time involved, and multiply your costs accordingly.

So when offering feedback, be sure to ask yourself how important your requests really are. If they are “nice to have” but not essential, consider holding your tongue and saving yourself some serious money.

Take an Iterative Approach

Lastly, many clients begin software projects with bloated lists of requirements that include numerous features their users don’t really need. This is a recipe for frustration, and perhaps more importantly, a surefire way to waste money.

Rather than attempting to build you dream application right out of the gates, consider aiming for an MVP—minimum viable product—instead. Ask yourself which one or two features are absolutely critical for the initial success of your project, and see if you can scale back your plans to just those items.

If you do decide to build an MVP, it can be especially helpful to work with a dev shop like OTS Solutions. Experienced developers have a sharp eye for “scope creep,” and their input will help you determine which features you really need, and which can wait until after your app becomes a hit.

The Bottom Line

As is often the case, you get what you pay for when it comes to mobile app development, and quality isn’t cheap. Whether you pay hourly or flat price your project, you should expect an effective hourly rate of $100, if not more. If that seems steep at first, don’t worry. There are many ways to control your total costs, and a well-made app will pay for itself over time.

The future is gaming: How new gamers are affecting society

The growth of technology and computer science made the video games part of the society. The effects of their presence are negative and positive. But it is definitely certain that the video gaming industry is growing and improving.

But how the video games are affecting on the society? Are the video games more and more consistent today? Well, certainly they are. Children and adults are including the video games in their lives every day, it is becoming like a routine. Here you will read about the positive and negative impact of the video games on the society.

What are the positive effects?

• Better coordination of the eyes

– It is commonly known that those people who are playing video games have better coordination of their eyes. They are becoming more skilled within time since they are practicing their eyes for longer period.

– Also it is known that the players can stimulate their body movements better and can become better. For example if a tennis player tends to play video games, he/she will have better coordination of the hands while playing.

– The virtual reality stimulation games are often used to train drivers and pilots. Such games help the pilots and the drivers to get used to the environment and get practice before going in the real world.

– The coordination and concentration of the eye is increased and people can learn without engaging someone’s life.

• Better training of the brain

– Some of the video games are designed with a purpose to give better training to the brain. “Players enjoy playing these types of games since they are asked to solve the game or to complete some challenge that requires increased activity of the brain, or a lot of thinking,” says Matthew Joyce who is a cognitive psychologist and works at Game Period.

– Players get great satisfaction at the end after they finish playing since they know that they solved something and learnt something new.

– People can learn more from the games than the classical learning.

• Better strategy and thinking skills

– Players often develop their strategy and thinking skills while playing some war games or strategy games that require a lot of thinking and making strategies in order to win. Instead of just playing with the character in the video game, the players needs to use the character to achieve success.

– The management games are also good video games since people think to plan and think throughout the game. The football games are often of this type.

– These games can help the players to think better and to become more adaptable. Since they are making decisions that would affect the real world, they need to think.

What are the negative effects?

• Isolation from the society

– The gamers are often isolated from the society since they spend a lot of their time playing games. This might result negatively on their social skills.

– Players usually say that they do not see the things that way since they have a lot of online friends and even they appreciate those friends than those they know in person. But since this is a virtual world they shouldn’t feel that much comfortable with the online friends because not everyone can be trusted.

– Sometimes the players spend 7-8 hours every day playing video games. The negative effects of this might be also back pain, headache, and much more.

• Negative effects in the education

– The excess playing of video games can result in some issues in the education and the learning process.

– Since the players spend a lot of time in front of the computer, they can lose the will for studying and be occupied only with the games. Some of the students do not even attend their classes from the excessive playing. Some of them even drop years at college or get stuck in big debts.

– The lack of sleep also affects the education.

• Cost issues

– The cost issues are another problem of the gamer. Due to the need to have all newly released games in their drawers, the gamers usually spend a lot of money in getting them.

– The gaming industry is very expensive, so the games are not cheap at all.

– The Internet, electricity, hardware costs are also among the expenses.

The future impact of the games

– Since we know that the video games are becoming more popular in the society, it is considered that the gaming industry will become more present in the lives of the people in the next 20 years.

– Since the tools used in the games are of a high technology, the people can learn a lot from the games before they actually start using their skills in the real environment.

Brown eggs or White eggs ?

One question that bothered me from a very long was the difference between a brown egg and a white egg.

I decided to do some extensive research on the same and I was surprised to know that there is no difference between the white egg and brown egg.

So what makes white egg white and brown egg brown?
White eggs are hatched by white feathered chickens with white ear lobes whereas brown eggs are hatched by red feathered chickens with red ear lobes.

Why is the brown egg 20% more expensive than the white egg?
Brown eggs are generally larger in size when compared to the white egg. Also, the red featured chicken cost more to feed. This extra cost is passed on to the customer.

P.S. Nutrition wise both eggs are SAME. It’s just a myth that brown eggs are more healthier.

So which egg should I buy?
Buy the eggs that suit your pocket and your preference of size. White eggs are cheaper and smaller in size, brown eggs are slightly bigger and more expensive.

Windows phone will be a serious contender by 2015

Windows phone is in the smartphone market for quite some time now but has not been able to get a significant market share until now.

The low end windows phone have shown silver linings but the high end phones are just not selling.

But that is not the end of the story. Windows and especially Nokia have been taking the phone quite seriously. Nokia has been constantly looking to improve the hardware and Microsoft is working on the software and apps.

Recently, some great apps including Vine, Instagram, FIFA 14 have arrived on the windows phone platform. Windows phone store now has more than 200,000 apps.

Microsoft is rumoured to be working on an iOS style notification centre and a virtual voice assistant code named Cortana.

Nokia’a take over by Microsoft will help integrating hardware and software in a way like never before. This blend will only boost the Windows phone ecosystem.

All Microsoft has to do now is improve the OS continuously and make developers improve their apps.
Windows phone has all the popular apps but these apps are of poor quality when compared with their android or iOS counterparts.

For now Windows phone is NO for me but I believe it could be the phone I want to own in 2016.
