After a Saturday, where we saw 27 goals in the Barclays Premier League in 7 games, we were looking more of the same on Sunday.  Super Sunday produced 2 games with 6 goals.

Newcastle United 2-0 Liverpool

Newcastle came into this game with search of 3 points as they wanted to push themselves for that final Champions League spot which is still up for grabs. Liverpool started the game on the brighter side as they were looking more of a threat on the counters while Newcastle were dominating possession. Andy Carroll was not welcomed back at Tyneside as he was alleged with Boos from all the Newcastle supporters, Then on the stroke of 9th minute Andy Carroll found himself through whole of the Newcastle defense, and had a great opportunity but the English striker decided not to pass the ball in the net and to go down and protest for the yellow card for diving. Had he been a bit more confident the center forward would have dispatched that into the back of the net. Few minutes later it was the Senegal striker Pappis Demba Cisse who put the home side ahead after a fantastic ball in from Hatem Bem Arfa crossing in from the right side of midfield.  Newcastle started off the second half brightly and they certainly kicked out Liverpool off the game, As the foot was on the gas Newcastle scored their second through Pappis Demba Cisse’s second goal of the game to wrap up the 3 points. This was Cisse’s 7 goal in 7 league games for Newcastle, He is certainly filling in the legendary no.9 shirt of the club Newcastle United. The game ended with no less controversy as on the 80th minute Pepe Reina was sent off for a headbutt on Perch. The Spanish Goalkeeper will now miss Liverpool’s next 3 games which includes the semi-final of the FA Cup at Wembley vs Everton. This was Liverpool’s 6th defeat in last 7 league games and now they find themselves 8th in the table below their fiercest rivals Everton by a point. Meanwhile, for Newcastle they are 6th level on points with Chelsea.

Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Swansea City

White Hart Lane was the place for this game. This was a chance for Spurs to get back 3rd in table if they would have won by 4 goals or more. Tottenham came into this game with no win in last 5 and in need for some points. Swansea were 10th in the table, in their last visit to London Swansea had won 3-0 against Fulham. Tottenham started with 3 in the center of midfield of Modric, Parker and Sandro to play up against Britton, Allen and Sigurdson. Spurs took the lead on the 20th minute through a Rafael Van Der Vaart strike which who couldn’t have placed it better, The goal was made by the master Luka Modric again and Bale with the assist.  The 1st half ended with Spurs in the lead but it was more of a chess match in midfield. The second half started with lots of pressure being put on by Swansea on Spurs. Sigurdson had a shot on goal from 30 yards with his left foot only to match the effort from Fridel who could just help the ball to the post and out for corner, At last on the 58th minute Spurs resillience was broken to Sigurdson who dispatched in a fantastic volley past Brad Fridel. The Volley was of great quality, kicked downwards and ending up into the corner. Just after Spurs conceded a goal they were right at Swansea’s neck as they pushed on for the winner, Spurs had about 7 to 8 corners in succession before Emmanuel Adebayor headed in a Rafael Van Der Vaart corner on the 72nd minute. Adebayor came back into the goal scoring charts after scoring at Emirates in February. Then late on in the 87th minute Spurs wrapped up the win with another header from Emmanuel Adebayor of an Arron Lennon cross. This game was a very fare affair with not a single card being shown. Spurs now are back level on points with Arsenal and only one goal behind them in the race for 3rd and the final automatic qualification of the group stages of the champions league. Swansea after this defeat go down one place to 11th with a goal difference of -4.
