Whats wrong at the Northern Part of London?

It was a very sad Sunday in the North of London yesterday as both the Manchester sides thrashed their North London rivals. Manchester City rocked White Hart Lane by beating their Champions League qualification rivals of last year by 5 goals to 1. Edin Dzeko went home with 4 cracking goals to his name.

Over to Old Trafford and it was Manchester United who thrashed their arch rivals Arsenal by 8 goals to 2. That was some beating.

North London was in humilation and embarrasement. Both the Manchester rivals showed what they are made up of and sent an early warning to all the other teams in the premier league.

Coming to their rivals, Chelsea have amassed 7 points out of the possible 9. Liverpool has also started well as they too are with 7 points out of their 3 games. The only two arguable title contenders that are left out behind are the two North London clubs: Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal. So, what’s wrong with these two sides?

Lack of new faces?

Arsenal have already lost their two big name players, Samir Nasri and Francesc Fabregas this season to Manchester City and Barcelona respectively. They have still failed to sign any replacements for them. They have brought in only  major signing that is Gervinho who was sent off on the opening day against Newcastle United.

Meanwhile, Tottenham have brought in a replacement for the blunder-man Huerelho Gomes in the form of 41 year old goalkeeper Brad Fridel. They also last week announced the signing on Emmanuel Adebayor on loan. He couldn’t play yesterday because he was not legible for the game as his parent club is Manchester City. But still Harry Redknapp will think he’s not done yet. Maybe Spurs need a replacement for their injury-prone defender Jonathan Woodgate who signed for Stoke City recently. Apart from that, he also needs to sort the ongoing saga surrounding star player Luka Modric for good.

Both these sides have another 48 hours or so to bring in some big signings and compete to be at the top.

Is it injuries?

Spurs’ side has been plauged with injuries at the moment. Ledley King, William Gallas, Alan Hutton, Steven Pienaar are all injured. Yesterday they played without a defensive midfielder as all three weren’t available as Huddlestone wasn’t match fit, Sandro has got a knee problem and Palacios went for a medical at Stoke to complete his signing.

Arsenal were with suspensions for Gervinho and Frimpong who both picked up red cards in the Gunners’ first two games of the season. They also have some injuries. Both Wenger and Redknapp would be looking for their players to get fit quickly. Redknapp yesterday got another 3 injuries as Kranjcar got a slight groin problem, Lennon had a hamstring problem and Rafael Van Der Vaart tore a muscle in his ankle. It truly was a day to forget for the clubs from North London.

Was it wrong tactics?

Same old, same old. Both these sides have been playing their formations the same way as last season. But Redknapp made a big mistake yesterday by playing in two attacking midfielders. Arsenal meanwhile have problems of their own. They played the same like last season with nothing new.

We all know that the season has just started. But there could be some more hammering coming up for both these sides as they have nothing new to offer. This is a real wake up call for these two sides.

That said, i’m pretty sure that these two sides will bounce back. The only question is, when?

What do you think is wrong with these two sides? Do drop in your comment! 😀
