When it comes to choosing a design and form-factor for a smartphone, you can’t beat what the iPhone 4 has to offer. Lauded by many as one of the finest pieces of work, the fine artwork demonstrated on the iPhone 4’s outer is something even rivals can’t stop admiring. But there’s a problem which Apple seems to be adamant on not changing — a closed ecosystem of iOS devices. This is were Google scores over Apple with its Android OS which is very lenient on newcomers and allows anyone to just step in and join the fun. But Google’s hardware has still got a lot of work to do before it’s appreciated by one and all. So does this mean we can’t enjoy a ‘perfect’ device that meets our hardware and software expectations exactly as we want it? No, not if this new-found KIRF is anything to go by.
Freakishly named GooApple, a new iPhone 4 knock-off has surfaced out of nowhere, sporting the exact same design and form-factor of the iPhone 4, but running Android OS 2.2 on the inside, giving you the best of both worlds.
This iPhone 4 clone sports a Qualcomm CPU, a 3.5″ touch screen (presumably not of Retina Display quality) and a 5mp rear shooter, with overall body measuring just 9.3mm in thickness. There also seems to be a front-facing camera going by the video (below), but nothing seems to be explicitly mentioned about it. The clone also has WiFi and GPS, just like the real thing does.
Coming to the software, the Android OS has been heavily skinned to look and feel just like Apple’s iOS, and they’ve done one hell of a job if the video (below) is anything to go by.
In all, we’re pretty satisfied with this KIRF, though the shanky name it’s got could have been better.
At present, there isn’t much information available on the GooApple website regarding price or availability of this GooApple 3G device, but once we get any more information we’ll keep you updated. It’ll be fun to play around with one of these devices 😀
Do you think Apple will take any legal action against GooApple? Google, i think, won’t.
