Okay, so we all knew this since a week now that Apple is holding its "special event" today, 1st September, 2010. But what we all didn't know was that rivals Amazon, Archos and Sony too will be sharing the limelight with Apple on D-Day.

While Sony's big buck is on the launch of an iTunes alternative, including a music and video download service (tonight at European trade event, IFA), Amazon intends on intro-ing a subscribe-and-view service for movies and TV shows (music? guess they are leaving that for Apple!). Amazon is in contact with NBC Universal, Time Warner, News Corporation and Viacom among others to lure them to sponsor it's service.

In another event, Archos announced 5 Android-built Tablets, availing screen sizes ranging from 2.5inches to 10inches.

Coming back to Sony, they have also announced that they will be giving their service a wider reach, making it available via PlayStation3 and will later make it compatible with Walkman-branded MP3 players, Vaio PC’s, Blu-ray players, some televisions and Sony Ericsson-branded mobile phones. The only left-out is the PSP which too will make the family sooner than you can expect.

Roundup

So its Amazon versus Archos versus Sony versus Apple. Hmm...interesting fight there but for me, personally, Apple will beat them all with the releases/announcements they have planned simply because the way they attract the audience towards their events, tempting everyone to tune in to them with a billion rumors doing the job for them. And besides, the events of that of its rivals is looking to me more of a publicity-snatching stunt than anything else. I mean, why else would they wait for Apple to make their announcement of holding a "special event" first and then make their move? Cheesy stuff!
