Apple uses IPS Technology. What is it? Why is it used?

In Plane Switching(IPS) technology was first introduced by Hitachi in 1996 to improve the quality of the displays on the LCDs.

It basically deals with colour schemes and viewing angle problems in LCDs.

This technology like any other technology was first very expensive and due to the high cost involved it was used by very few people, most of them being graphic professionals.

Now in the 21st century this technology has become much more cheaper and thus can be used commonly in daily use devices.

Steve Jobs(C.E.O Apple) first introduced this technology in the revolutionary and magical Apple product- The Apple iPad which has by far been the best tablet ever sold on this earth. It used the multi touch IPS technology. From the Apple iPad point of view this technology was very important keeping in the mind that the iPad has to be tilted while gaming and media viewing. Apple has been very sensible here by using the IPS technology

Later the IPS technology was introduced in the Apple iPhone 4 which too required this technology during gaming and media viewing.IPS technology along with the Retina Display makes the overall display a real sensation, by far it is the best display that a mobile phone can have.

Finally the latest release by Apple was the new Apple iMacs where it has used the IPS technology with crystal liquids to enhance the display. With the HD becoming common Apple has to be one step ahead of the others and by introducing the IPS technology in the new Apple iMacs Apple is doing just that.

IPS panel has completely changed our viewing experience. By using IPS panel in lcd tv people can enjoy their lcd tv from any possible angle without any color distortion & this panel can deliver better picture quality.

Acc to my perspective,IPS technology is the finest technology which one would ever have experienced.With their implementation in Tvs,one do experience a superb quality picture with high brighness and no blurring.

hey! may be you got IPS panel tech lcd now but IPS in an lcd technology introduced in the year 1996 by Hitachi.

it's a wrong info. Panasonic is not using IPS technology. Hitachi and LG uses it. moreover LG uses it in LED and 3D tv too.

The name In-Plane Switching comes from the crystals in the cells of the IPS panel lying always in the same plane and being always parallel to the panel’s plane. In IPS technology the liquid crystal runs horizontally. So it has a wide viewing angle, fast response speed, and a simple structure. On the other hand, VA has a wider viewing angle compared to TN. To achieve this, however, it required a compensatory film and
complicated multi-domain technology to divide pixels into parts.

think the question is not about the preference its about the best. thus in
order to choice the best is all about the quality is gives you. Now comparing
the IPS an VA, the best performance in term of the colour clarity, larger
viewing angle and staple panel. IPS is the better one.

I was searching a LCD for a long time which will provide me 172 degree viewing angle. most of the manufacturers offers 172 degree viewing angle but they are failed to produce. now I will see LG with IPS tech.

Wow.. now i can have LCD TV panel with 178 degree viewing angle. best part is that it van be found IN most LG TV.
