Portugal captain Cristiano Ronaldo is the most searched player on Google as the football fever spreads across countries.

With the FIFA World Cup 2010 under way in South Africa, fans all over the world are looking up to search engines to get all the facts about their favorite players and countries. And when it comes to search engines, who better than Google?

"In search, the winning player is already clear: Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portuguese team captain and talented forward," the Internet giant said in a blog post on Friday - the day the football extravaganza kicked off.

Apart from Ronaldo, players like Kaka, Messi, Rooney and Sneijder were also searched by many.

Google also said there was much more interest online in injured Dutch winger Arjen Robben than there was in Wednesday's elections in the Netherlands.

"In the days leading up to the June 9 elections, between four and five times as many searches were done for Robben than either of the two popular candidates," Google said.

Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal start their world cup campaign against Sven Goran Erikson's Ivory Coast tomorrow but looks like the Portuguese star has already started scoring. On Google.
