We've seen plenty of USB Displays but none like this. Apparently, Samsung Electronics Company Limited has developed an 18.5-inch LCD Display which is powered by a USB and consumes power as low as 6.3W thanks to its forked USB 2.0 cable. This low power consumption has been credited to the improvement in transmittance of the panel and the luminance efficiency of the back-light.

Drawbacks?

The only drawback is that the device uses an edge-lit backlight that limits the device's lifetime to 30,000 hours (20,000 hours less) compared to the 50,000 hours the existing LCD monitors offer.

Availability

"We are planning to start volume production of the LCD display for desktop PCs in 2011," is the word from Samsung. So 2011 it is, huh.
