Wayne Rooney

Rooney's opener in the 13th minute was his 7th consecutive headed goal

David Beckham's return to Old Trafford was brief and ended in the disappointment of a comprehensive defeat as Manchester United swept past AC Milan into the Champions League quarter-finals 7-2 on aggregate. Another brace from Rooney, taking his tally to 30 for the season, made another splendid European night for the Old Trafford faithfuls to cherish.

Meanwhile Real Madrid will not be playing at the Santiago Bernabeau, the place of the Champions League final, as they were thrown out by Lyon. Cristiano Ronaldo gave Madrid the perfect start with a goal inside 6 minutes but Miralem Pjanic's equaliser with 15 minutes to go was the destructive blow that sent the Spanish giants crashing out.
