Apple and Adobe are having a kind of a coldwar. This all started when Flash was not included in the iPhone OS and now not on the iPad OS too. Recently at a town hall meeting, Apple’s CEO Steve Jobs slammed Adobe and also called it lazy.
Tablets could be the future of browsing and Apple is already one of the best in the Mobile industry and could be a major game player in the future, a fact known by Adobe very well.
Apple had deserted flash and chose not to include it in the iPad, a move which could bring huge losses to Adobe as they miss out on a lot of customers and to consumers as they miss a lot of content.
Apple is not interested in integrating flash in either of it’s platforms (iPhone or iPad) and their CEO in a town hall meeting with their execs said that HTML5 is the future. Meanwhile Adobe still tried to convince by constantly stressing the fact that Flash is installed on about 98% of computers all over the world and around 75% of video content is flash (flash covers a huge portion of active content on the Web).
They are announcing Flash for top platforms like Google’s Android, RIM’s Blackberry, Nokia, Palm Pre and these partnerships are a part of the Open Screen Project which has over 50 partners.
Now, the only 2 alternatives for Adobe to follow is either to get flash integrated or stop consumers from buying Apple Products.
The first they have tried but with no success, leaving them open to only option two.
Apple and Google also haven't been friends and Adobe realises that it could target this rivalry and make it work to it's own advantage. As they say, if you have common enemies, then why not join hands to fight it. Adobe and Google are taking each other’s cover in their fight against Apple.
Adobe could soon start promoting Google products publicly as they’ve got Adobe technology integrated. This would be profitable to both the companies.
So can Google and Adobe strike a new deadly partnership or will they eventually make a fool of themselves, which would surely crown Apple as the king?
