Mumbai International Film Festival for Documentary, Short and Animation Films (MIFF), is a festival organised in the city of Mumbai by the 'Film Division', Ministry of Information and Broadcasting , Govt. of India. It has been organised since 1990, and focuses on documentary, short and animation films.
Veteran film maker Yash Chopra will be the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony today. Naresh Bedi's documentary "On a Tiger Trail" and Shih-Ting Hung’s "Viola :The Traveling rooms of a little giant"are the inaugural films.
From this year, the International and Indian Competition Sections have been merged into one. Festival Director Kuldeep Sinha said, “Indian documentary producers have now achieved high level of creative as well as technical excellence, to compete with the best in the world."
He said the award money had been enhanced in each category, totaling to Rs 2.275 million. The best short film/documentary (upto 30 minutes) will be awarded a Golden Conch and Rs 3,00,000 cash prize. Another Golden Conch and Rs 3,00,000 award will be given to the best film/documentary over 30 minutes duration.
