Ace winger smashes Mtiliga's nose to see red after scoring a couple against Malaga

Ouch!!!

Real winger Cristiano Ronaldo dominated Madrid's 2-0 home win against Malaga in the LaLiga on Sunday, before being sent off in the second half. The world's most expensive player scored twice in the game to put Madrid in a commanding position moving Real to within 5 points of leaders Barcelona.

All was well until the 70th minute, when he picked up a red card after swinging his arm & catching Mtiliga in the face as he tried to spin away from the defender's cluthes.

Angry Manager!

The Andalusian club's president Fernando Sanz was critical of Ronaldo's attitude when he was interviewed immediately after the game.

"I don't suppose Ronaldo meant to do it but he swung his arm back once and the second time he did it he broke the player's nose," Sanz said.

"It was a brutal impact and a clear sending-off offence. What he should have done is to leave the field apologising to his opponent rather than throwing his arms in the air and protesting."

Media Slams Ronaldo

  • "Cristiano Ronaldo, hero & villain" (El Paris)
  • "Cristiano Ronaldo, again angel & demon" (La Razon)
  • "Doctor "Cristiano, & Mister Ronaldo" (Marca)

These were some of the headlines in Monday's Spanish press.

Ronaldo speaks up!

After the match, Ronaldo visited Malaga's locker room to apologise to Mtiliga.

"I've spoken with Mtiliga and he told me that I didn't need to apologise because he doesn't believe I hurt him intentionally and he's right about that," Ronaldo added.

"Those who understand football know that my intention is always to play the ball.

"I wouldn't want to injure anybody. I'm not that type of person. I'm not a bad person. I only want to shine by playing football.

"Now I'm going to be angry when I get home because I won't be able to play through suspension."

Ronaldo, as a minimum, will now sit at next week's trip to fifth-placed Deportivo La Coruna and might be banned for a longer period.

There you go!
