Excerpt from Area Rug Rules and How to Break Them Part Two :
For an area‐rug to seem steadied under a bed, it must be big enough to expand beyond the edges of the bed at least: "18 inches" for a 'king' or 'queen' bed also at least : "12 inches" for a 'full' or 'twin' bed. Depending upon the size of the area there could be "more rug" expansion around the bed, but not less, which will create the rug seem inconsequential being sheltered mainly by the bed.
